Introduction to the SOUNDPEATS Capsule3 Pro+ Earbuds Review
SOUNDPEATS - maybe you’ve heard of them, maybe not. I certainly had, but had no real experience with them personally. They fit into the more budget friendly earbuds and headphones category that punches above its weight and offers quite a bit of premium features when considering the price point. I’d put them in the same area as Soundcore (Soundcore Liberty 4’s review).
The Capsule3 Pro+ earbuds run at the top of their range in terms of feature set and price point, so I’ll consider them the premium offering from SOUNDPEATS. There are lots of features that you’d want, and we will be sure to cover off on those as well as things like performance, fit and finish, etc. As I’m a traveler, not an audio professional, I’ll be looking through the lens of said traveler. Cool?
This is my review of the SOUNDPEATS Capsule3 Pro+ earbuds. I tested these in cafes, commuting in NYC on the subway, airport lounges, airplanes, and multiple domestic and international flights.
As always for full transparency, SOUNDPEATS did offer to send me these for review, but I did not receive any money in return and this is not a sponsored article. I do use affiliate links which help to support the site if you decide to use them to make a purchase, but you’re under no obligation to do so and there’s no additional cost to you. -Need travel insurance? As an American, our health care system is complicated and your regular insurance might not cover you abroad. For international travel, I’ve been using World Nomads for years. They have adventure packages that cover most hiking and even ice hockey. Be sure to read all the coverage information (it’s laid out very well on the site) to make sure it’s right for you, but be sure to give them a look. I find their rates quite competitive and the quotes are free! -
SOUNDPEATS Capsule3 Pro+ Overview and Features
SOUNDPEATS packs quite a few features in here. From their website:
Hi-Res Audio & LDAC Codec Tech
12mm Driver(Frequency Response: 20Hz~40kHz)
8 Hrs Single Playtime & 52 Hrs Full Playtime
Hybrid ANC Tech (as Deep as 43dB)
Clear Call with 6 mics (FF+FB+CALL Mic)
Game Mode & Standardized Touch Control
The Game Mode is for low latency with audio and visuals.
LDAC is perfect for Android Users. I’m an iPhone user, so no benefit for me there unfortunately. But they do of course support AAC - which is Apple’s proprietary codec.
I also want to add that these are earbuds with MEMS drivers. This technology is newer and is silicon driven vs being plastic driven like a lot of older driver technologies. The proposed benefit to this tech is more efficiency in sound delivery, smaller package, and better reproduction of sounds with lower distortion than plastic.
We’ve also got various touch controls - and these can be adjusted in the app itself.
The 52 hours full playtime refers to a single charge plus the charges from the case.
Charging connection is USB-C which is good for fast charging and modernizing your cables.
It retails for between $89.99 USD and 70.00 USD depending on if you’re looking at their website or Amazon. So check both.
The Good
Design is solid and unoffensive. Doesn’t look cheap. Plastic is high quality and I like that it’s matte finish and not shiny. Shiny black needs to go away. The gold is used here in a nice way and is not tacky.
I REALLY liked the fit on these. This is personal of course - but compared to my AirPods Pro, which are notorious for terrible fit, these were a dream. I think that’s something to consider in earbuds. Some folks legit just can’t wear the Apple versions and that’s fine. Wear what fits. I wasn’t surprised with this, but I’m noting. I even went running in these and had no issues. Something I would not do with my AirPods since I can barely chew a thick piece of bread while wearing those without dislodging them.

Features to price ratio - they pack a lot in here, they do. You’ve got touch controls, active noise canceling, transparency mode, etc. There is also a decent app which gives you more control over the EQ than you’re gonna get with Apple, so keep that in mind. Usually with non-Apple brands you do get more freedom of choice. I think the EQ Presets are a differentiator if you like to listen to different music types and ALSO like to change the EQ per that type. These are also using MEMS technology, something that’s not really widely used at this price range yet, I don’t believe. I could be wrong there though.
Sound is solid. I had no issues or complaints with the sound. Like I said, I’m not an audiofile so I cannot look at these with that kind of nuance. But, I did not notice anything overly tinny or high pitched, which is usually a symptom of cheap headphones. No overly muddy base, etc. It all seemed fairly well balanced. For reference, I listen to a lot of indie pop, Americana, dream pop, and the odd classic rock selection. Lately I’ve also been digging into actual Classical music so I was able to run the gamut here on musical types in my testing.
The Bad
ANC doesn’t quite measure up to the more expensive brands. That should be expected at this price point, but also just noting what I found so they can maybe work on their algo. It’s hard to compete with dedicated chips, though. More details below.
Controls were a little non-intuitive to me. But it could just be because I’m used to the AirPods Pro and switching between brands can always be a little goofy. So this might be a ‘me’ problem, I freely admit that. All brands should just copy each other here. Like anything you get used to it after a week or so.
Found battery life to just be “fine”. Not bad, but not class leading or anything. That said, with USB-C these days, things of this size charge SO fast it shouldn’t be a huge stress point. I wouldn’t really make this a breaking point in your choosing process, as they also weren’t really worse than their competitors.
Due to the microphone qualities and I think lack of a dedicated chip like the top end brands, transparency mode isn’t on par with the top brands. But, it was still fine and I had no problem using it for being polite to the barista so I could properly hear them and not be rude. You just won’t get that high performance version of it. Something like Apple’s is honestly astonishing and isn’t a fair measuring stick - especially when you consider price point.
The Performance of the Capsule3 Pro+ Earbuds
ANC was overall fine. It does a decent job of dulling the noise around you and makes your environment more peaceful.
Good on low frequency sounds (hums, lowering train noise, airplane engine noise is reduced but not eliminated, fans, etc.).
Not as good with higher frequencies (voices in cafes or lounges, symbols or snare drums in music being played in your environment, speaker announcements, etc.
Connection was flawless, which I was surprised about. Bluetooth struggles in wide open intersections in big cities, also around crowded areas where there is a lot of signal noise. This happens in airports sometimes for both reasons (too wide open and nowhere to bounce the signal, and too much signal crowding from other sources). I had zero skipping connections in these scenarios which I think we can attribute to the newer BT codecs, which is great news for more budget friendly buds - this was always one of their biggest issues between wallet friendly bluetooth buds and something with a dedicated connection chip.
To review where and how I tested these, I used them in the following scenarios: commutes in NYC on the subway, in-office at work, in multiple airports, multiple flights, airport lounges, neighborhood running, and various cafes or coffee shops. I really hit many dfferent environments.
Final Thoughts On My SOUNDPEATS Capsule3 Pro+ Review
Very good price to value ratio and I’d place them in the same league as Liberty 4’s from SoundCore with the SOUNDPEATS getting the edge. In fact, these use a matte finish plastic which I like much better. These also are a better choice than the model I had because the Bluetooth codec is newer and performed much better in my experience from a connection standpoint.
That was: flawless BT connection in busy areas for me. Never got one skip due to signal overload or no buildings to bounce it off - which was a pleasant surprise.
The Capsule3 also uses MEMS tech, which is also more of a plus vs. other brands models from previous years.
ANC is solid if not perfect.
Fit is WAY better than Airpods Pro (for me).
I think these are a great alternative to the $200.00 plus models if you’re looking for something to help with the noise a bit but not kill you on budget. Or, they’d honestly make a great backup as well for EDC or leaving at the office, etc.
They aren’t perfect - and I think they could work on their ANC algo to improve vs. the higher frequency noises like voices and snares in public speaker music.
But overall I found them to just be pretty solid to use and an easy recommendation for those looking for a lot of great features at a more manageable price. Like my previous review, they manage to find that good balance on quality to performance ratio that I think a lot of folks are looking for, especially the people that would rather spend on the destination, not the gear that gets you there. Plus as noted they have better connection performance which leads to less frustration in use.
